David Treadwell: two gigantic garage sales for two great causes

Listen, listen, citizens of Brunswick and elsewhere! Spring is in the air. Garage sales are on the horizon. Seize the moment. Prepare for the bargains of a lifetime at two incredible, grand and glorious garage sales. Bring your wallets and your buddies. You get the things you want. Two extraordinary local organizations benefit from this. Everyone wins!

The Incredible Technicolor Garage Sale, the first of its kind hosted by the Maine State Music Theater, will be held Saturday, April 30 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at MSMT’s administrative offices at 22 Elm St. in Brunswick. People who want to preview and purchase the available products can pay $20 to participate in the preview from 5-7:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 28.

David Mosley, co-president of the MSMT garage sale, says: “The response has been tremendous, much greater than expected. People are so excited that MSMT is back. The organizers had already received more than 2,500 articles the first week of April. Five large rooms will be used to display the objects on the day of the sale.

New and gently used categories include furniture, kitchenware, linens, coats, treasures, children’s items, home and garden items, and sports equipment. In addition to artwork and crystal glassware, special items for sale will include a Nordic track, treadmills, weights and cross-country skis.

Proceeds from the incredible Technicolor garage sale will be used to benefit MSMT’s relaunch campaign. The campaign has set an ambitious goal of $400,000 to get MSMT up and running at full strength.

Mid Coast Hospital’s ‘great and glorious garage sale’ has been a popular event for more than 20 years, although the pandemic caused a two-year hiatus. The Sale will take place on Saturday May 21 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and on Sunday May 22 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. People can pay $20 to participate in the early bird sale, which will take place from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Friday, May 20.

The big and glorious garage sale will be held at the Merrymeeting Plaza at 147 Bath Road in Brunswick. Contribute items can be brought to the Plaza (at the admission point adjacent to the Bed Bath & Beyond store) between 9 a.m. and noon on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Item categories for the Great and Glorious Garage Sale include Kitchenware, Furniture, Arts & Crafts, Jewelry, Linens, Treasures, Toys, and Home & Garden.

Nikki Niven, who co-chairs the sale, notes that about 100 volunteers are involved in its realization. “It’s a great way for people to come together and do something to give back to the community.”

Most of the proceeds from the great and glorious garage sale are used to help students entering the medical field. The rest goes for the Auxiliary token at the Hospital.

Curt Dale Clark, artistic director of the Maine State Music Theater, notes that “people will have the opportunity to see the inside of our building – the rehearsal room, the shop, etc. These two garage sales offer the community an exciting way to support two great organizations. »

Lois Skilliings, president of Mid Coast -Parkview Health, stresses that this is not a competition. We have a kind-hearted and generous community that can support two large garage sales. A rising tide lifts all boats.
