NEW ULM – Aided by a nice breeze and plenty of shade, Bavarian Blast kicked off with Heidi and the Good Ol’ Boys at Brown County Fairgrounds on Thursday.

The Center’s Carrie and Jerome Goettl were among the attendees, making their fourth trip to the event. The couple were among nine family members camping in New Ulm.

“I like the parade the most” Carrie said. “Everything is very well organized too.”

“I love music,” said Jerome.

Bavarian Blast Vice President Tom Furth said online ticket sales and the new Ulm Chamber of Commerce were good this year. Additionally, youth and children 16 and under will be admitted free on Friday, Saturday and Sunday from July 14-17.

“We are ready to go. Everyone should go out and enjoy it,” said Blast board member Dodie Wendinger.

Friday events begin at 11 a.m., with the Concord Singers performing on the Nuvera Stage in the Shell Tent. Squeezebox and Mollie B follow from 12 p.m. to 1:15 p.m. After that is Dan Witucki & Mein Hematland Musikanten, Alpenstern. These bands return until 8 p.m. when Free Fallin-tribute to Tom Petty performs from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. Shirts & Skins play from 10 p.m. to midnight.

Saturday is Witucki & Mein Hematland Musikanten at 11am, Alpenstern, the Concord Singers and Squeezebox with Mollie B.

A mug-holding contest starts at 7 p.m.

Starlett’s Web plays from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m., followed by Big Top Radio from 10 p.m. to midnight.

Sunday polka music begins with the Original German Band at 8:30 a.m., a polka service at 10 a.m. with Squeezebox featuring Mollie B. the New Ulm Municipal Band, parade from 12:30 p.m., Schell’s Hobo Band from 2-3 p.m. The Xpedition Band closes the Blast from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Friday bands in KNUJ Polka Hall feature Brian Brueggen and the Mississippi Valley Dutch at 11 a.m., The Leon Olsen Show from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., Brueggen from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., and Leon Olsen from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. h.

Saturdays are Barefoot Becky & the Ivanhoe Dutchmen from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., the Wendinger Band from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., Barefoot Becky from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and the Wendinger Band from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Sunday, Larry Olsen plays from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Dain’s Dutchmen from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., Larry Olsen from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. and Dain’s Dutchmen from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
