Hey Aaron,
Just decided to check back to see if you were on line again and there you were with a bunch of podcasts that I had missed. It's been a long time since Christmas 2006!
We were speculating that the IRS had gotten you for your Fairtax podcast.
Welcome back, and we're looking forward to listening to alot more great music!!

I have the feed from iTunes. If you try to update you get the error that it doesn't seem to be aa valid podcast url. But when I downloaded the latest show from iTunes Store manually, it adds it to the feed.

It'll be good to have you back. For me, it's not been a loss, as I've been catching up with all the back shows for a long time now, so it's unlikely that I'll have a break in my listening.

Thanks for doing what you've done here.

I'm glad to see the site is working again. I have been trying to come on the past couple of days and it wasn't acting all sorts of weird. Anyways, loved the podcast as usual. Really loved hearing Jim Fidler again. I haven't heard that particular song before. I thought it was great!! I love hearing Greenwich Meantime and am happy to hear that I can purchase their cd on iTunes!! I've been wanting to buy their cd but for some reason haven't gotten around to it yet!! Now I can just download it and listen to it!! Keep up the good work and I hope you feel better soon.

O.K. loved the Jim Fidler tune! I love world fusion stuff and fusing Middle Eastern with Celtic is brilliant!

Aaron, you got me loving Greenman because of the same weird fusions they do. Keep playing some different stuff every now and then.

Greenwich Meantime is also my new favorite and glad to see both sell through iTunes.

Good show this week....well all are good, but good selections this time.

Being not only in the states but in Georgia, where few cool celtic artists seem to come, I am loving ETH even more since they have hit GA 2x's this year.

It really was a great show and Maja had such a good time at the show, even though she got a bit tired by the end.

Now if only I can get bands to hit Macon instead of Atlanta......

I saw ETH (opening for Gaelic Storm) at Artpark this summer on an outdoor stage very much like the one in the video. It was a great show, despite the 95-degree heat.
They've gotten more celtic and less punk than they were a few years ago, which is great. They were a great fit with Gaelic Storm.
Nice to see the Toronto group starting to tour in the states regularily. I'd been a fan for a while but hadn't seen them live until this year.

I was hoping that you could make it, but it was a fun show none the less (or les?) I shouldn't attempt bad puns while still drinking coffee.

The show was done off the board with my M-Audio Microtrack 24/96 (see pic to the right). Thank you M-Audio!

On Flickr, thats brilliant, I havent used flickr much yet, but I knew it had a lot of capabilities. I'll have to set that up to use and mention it next week :)

Huge Thanks!

Great show and awesome live recordings! I'm bummed that I wasn't able to make it to the gig. Did you get your live recordings off of the board or with a mic? They sound fantastic.

I have a recommendation for your Flickr photos. For my podcast, we agreed on a common tag that listeners & crewmembers can all use for any photos related to the podcast. We use <em>thesignalpodcast</em>, for your show it might be good to use a tag like <em>celticmusicnews</em>. That way listeners can contribute photos that are related & all photos related to your podcast can be grouped together regardless of who posted them.

The answer to the King of Scotland question is Idi Amin. I did not do a google search, but I did see a commercial for a new movie called the Last King of Scotland. I did verify the answer with Wikipedia.

I would love to hear the Queen Song....that one might be tough to get permission to play though, but if u send me a copy of it I will try to get permission to use it....maybe do another of the theme'd shows when I figure out more songs on topic :)

On King of Scotland, no its not cheating, cheating is having someone tell u the answer with no effort, a google search is some effort :)

But don't say it yet, let see if we can get someone else to figure it out too.

Whoa....O.K. mixed feelings on the Shaymin. Went to the Myspace site and I can honestly say the rest of their stuff is way out there beyond this song. I must say it brought a laugh, but let's not get used to having this on the "Celtic" music news podcast please.....Still good if not unusual show. Thanks Aaron!

No.
No.
No.

Maybe, maybe, a rap knock off with legitimate Celtic rhythm structures could work, but not this sort of obnoxious-on-purpose pseudo-urban in-yer-face all-attitude-no-history/study/strength/ability/class slow 2/2 vulgarity stuff.

Hi Butty Bach,

I agree with you on the bass line and backing music especially, being a bass player for fun i always try to look at and listen to bass lines (even synth ones).

I'm also not much of a fan of rap in general or rapped lyrics, although there are exceptions, Rush's Roll the Bones rap section comes to mind (the author of which, Neil Peart is a friend on the shows myspace page (so is Dr. Dre for some strange but yet somehow pleasing reason)). Or Black 47's Rockin' the Bronx, which is very early Beastie Boysish.

While I almost never comment on political things on the show (I did mention the Fairtax Book once as an aside), there is a lot of good celtic/irish music that is political, see Black 47. Shaymin is an Irish-American from the Boston area and Irish politics are part of the heritage there.

That said, I have the upmost respect for the British military, and while I dont know any personally well, a good friend of mine (and listner to the show) Mel, is in the Civilian Police doing international work a lot of the time, I met him in Kosovo and he also worked in Iraq.

I was and am so excited by Shaymin because I never heard the style before. Its like when I first learned of celtic music (and celtic/folk/rock) by hearing Spirit of the West at Eden Fest near toronto years and years ago, when I got home and picked up one of their CD's I was just enthralled.

Now my memory which is not the best will betray me as he did explain the song to me in a lot of detail on the phone. It's mainly about Irish (american mainly) women and what they put up with being with Irish men. The line you referred to was about someone he knew personally (a daughter of one of the men killed), and I believe it was supposed to be from her point of view.

The show takes no stance on any politics, any ones stance can be aired through song, James Connelly by Black 47 for example. But being an american (an irish, scottish, english and dutch mutt if anyone is curious) I do stand by the free speech view. I didn't play it for any political reason, just that I love music that is a mix of styles, going back to high school, anyone else remember Anthrax and Public Enemy doing Bring the Noise? Or Run DMN and Aerosmith redoing Walk this Way?

Hi Butty Bach,

I agree with you on the bass line and backing music especially, being a bass player for fun i always try to look at and listen to bass lines (even synth ones).

I’m also not much of a fan of rap in general or rapped lyrics, although there are exceptions, Rush’s Roll the Bones rap section comes to mind (the author of which, Neil Peart is a friend on the shows myspace page (so is Dr. Dre for some strange but yet somehow pleasing reason)). Or Black 47’s Rockin’ the Bronx, which is very early Beastie Boysish.

Its like when I first learned of celtic music (and celtic/folk/rock) by hearing Spirit of the West at Eden Fest near toronto years and years ago, when I got home and picked up one of their CD’s I was just enthralled.

Now my memory which is not the best will betray me as he did explain the song to me in a lot of detail on the phone. It’s mainly about Irish (american mainly) women and what they put up with being with Irish men.

I didn’t play it for any political reason, just that I love music that is a mix of styles, going back to high school, anyone else remember Anthrax and Public Enemy doing Bring the Noise? Or Run DMN and Aerosmith redoing Walk this Way?

Cheers,
Aaron

I Thought I'd add my thoughts on Shaymin as played in the latest podcast. I quite like the way that the backing track was put together especially the way the bass line managed to sound like a celtic bass line with a big dose of dub added. I'm not a big fan of rapped vocals, probably the reason why I tend towards traditional and roots music, so overall it failed to get me very excited. Kudos for finding a new sound though.

However as a Brit I would like to say that I was less than impressed at the lyric refering to the British Armed forces as cowards. Adopting a pro IRA stance seems remarkable given the events of sept 11th. In general I would imagine people visit this site and listen to this podcast because of what they agree on.. a particular interest in a particular genre of music. Perhaps overtly political material would only serve to distract from that common ground. I say perhaps becuse it might just make it more succesful, but perhaps for all the wrong reasons.

Hi David,
First, Welcome Back!

I will be putting all of them back on this site, I started it but found one problem, the player for the site has problems with some of them depending on how they were encoded, so thats taking longer than planned. You can however find all the shows at http://celtic.podshow.com in the meantime.

Cheers,

I haven't listed to your podcast in over a year, but I remembered about it again this week. It's great you're still putting these out. Any chance of you uploading any more old episodes as I don't appear to have kept most of my old ones?

I saw two sets of GMT at the Buffalo Irish Festival Saturday and they were great.
We'll miss James, but Jesse is a proficient and dynamic guitar player who really compliments the band.
They seemed to play with a lot of new energy and had a few new songs in the set. I spoke with several members of the band throughout the day and they were having a great time mingling with their fans.

Hi Aaron,

New site is looking good.

I was lucky enough to encounter an Irish group by the name of Amadan tonight. Their music is fantastic.

They only have a couple of CDs out but it might be worth looking into.

Website: http://www.amadanusa.com/index.htm

Love your show,

Hey Aaron,
I thought about it a little more and I think it would be good to have a section on the home page directly under the "Subscribe" section called band with a link for each band you've featured on your podcast. Each link would take you to a subpage on your site with info you or your listeners have provided ie. Band bios, pictures, interviews, and links to previous podcasts where they were featured. There you could also add links to their website for tour info etc and maybe to CDBaby to purchase CDs.
I know many times I've forgotten the name of a group or a tune I heard on your podcast and I think it would help to have a place to look at all the groups, and a link to go listen and buy.
Thanx again!

Hey Aaron,
Looks like it's my internet explorer browser that is having the problem. If I use netscape I have no problems. Very strange.

I just wanted to suggest a band that you might be interested in playing on your podcast sometime. They are called Shanneyganock. I don't know if you have ever heard for them before or not. They are from Newfoundland and sing alot of Irish type music. I don't think I've seen you play any of their music before so I thought I would suggest it. Keep the great podcasts coming!!

Hi Nancy and Mike,
The first 2 posts to the new site! Woo Hoo...
I'll email you nancy on the computer and browser you are using so I can try to check that out. I will email some more info on helping out with GBS info as well.
Mike on the links, they are coming...I am trying to figure out how i want to lay them out at the moment, my first attempt, which i liked for a few mins :), is at the top for now, it is next to About. Its only 2 artists at the moment till i figure out the design then i'll fill in the blanks.

To both of you and of course any other interested readers, the calendar and tour dates. This is a tough one Mike. i've really thought about this one for quite a while and have come up with many ways to do it, but all of them involve either manually checking every bands dates often and updating them in a calendar of some kind and I just do not have the time for that.
However....that said...I am hoping for some kind of comprimise, where they can be posted to this site. As Nancy volunteered for GBS we also have a volunteer for GMT so far as well. There will be seperate categories here soon, so you will be able to select all entries that have tour dates to just view them.

Now all that is needed is volunteers for more artists :) All of you listeners and readers come join in....

Cheers,
Aaron

Now all that is needed is volunteers for more artists All of you listeners and readers come join in….

Cheers,
Aaron

Hey Aaron,
Love your podcast!
My suggestion for the site would be to either have a link to all the bands' sites that you feature or have their tour schedules on one central calendar (probably be way too busy). Bottom line, it would be real nice to know who's coming out to my area.
Thanx for all you do!!

Hi Aaron. I love your podcasts. Found out about it through Jim Fidler's podcast. Now as for the the outlay of this site I don't know if this is just my computer but the boxes on the right side of my screen (the calender and advertisements) is moved in and covers some of the words you have written. So, I can only read part of your message!!

As for suggestions for a forum idea, I like the idea of one fan posting the news for their favourite band/singer. I would like to volunteer for GBS if no one else has. I'm a huge fan and keep up on their activities alot!! Anyways, I think the news part should include tour dates and cd launches for artists. I think though that it will be alot of work for just you to do so your suggestion for other people to help is the best. If I can help in any way just let me know!!
